“Mm,hm…. Food for thought…

“How do I feel about it?…About not having any time?…

I don’t know what I feel, I can’t type… Oh shit…

“Well I keep coming into this job centre, just, first of all I’m in and out of here all the time, I send off application form after application form, I’m dying, I’m struggling on £56 a week, my daughter (inaudible)… she’s on income support, and then all you get is ‘get out to work, get out to work, get out to work’, I’m thinking I don’t particularly want to get out to work but I have to go to work so that’s… well (inaudible)… but then even if I’m going out to work and I’m working all the hours that they tell me I should be working, full time, they’re ripping me off in uhm, council tax, and income tax, they’re ripping me off everywhere, you know even if I go into a shop and buy some food, unless I go to a farmer’s market or something like that where money’s being ploughed back in, you know it’s doing something for the community… it’s like the banks, the bank ripped me off so now I’ve changed to the co-operative bank down here, down the road, the co-op, it’s the people for the people, it doesn’t matter how much money you’ve got, doesn’t matter if you’ve got £5 a week or £2 a week, cos then you can get a loan if you’re desperate for something, if you need it, cos you’re ploughing it back in for everybody else, ok, but really the system it should all be blown up, I wouldn’t mind if the whole fucking planet was just destroyed and start again, d’you know what I’m saying, because that’s how bad I feel really…ok, is that al right? I could say a lot more but I’m stressed out now, I was stressed when I came down here, I’m stressed….

“Yeah…

Well I dunno…

“I’ve just done a year (inaudible) college, legal studies right, telling me oh well, if it do something and that’ll get you something, yeah… help…  join NACRO, help these young offenders you know what I mean, try and help them… support… fight for people,… I, I’ve been, I left college at the beginning of July, I’m still here… I’m still still struggling, still the same old shit, that was a load of  bullshit obviously then wasn’t it?… you know stuff like they keep telling me, ‘get out there and get something’, 55, I’ve got arthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, you name it, I’ve got it, and they’re still saying ‘get out to work’, well I’d die if I didn’t and then I’ll, I’ll die if I do… you know it’s a trap, no matter which what way, I’m knacked whatever way I go, you know….it’s no life, you haven’t got a life, you haven’t got no quality, this is just surviving, everybody’s just struggling to survive everyday… just survive, just to breathe, just to walk, you know it’s not living is it? If this is living then fucking hell d’you know what I mean, I wanna be dead.

(male bystander “it’s brutal, yeah…”)

“Yeah, yeah… every time, everywhere you turn… there’s nowhere to turn, you have no cop out, you can’t escape… and it’s gonna get worse, ID fucking things coming in and shit like that…

“What can we do about it?… oh that’s a bit drastic that, what can we do? You c’.. It’s impossible, there’s nothing we can do. For all the organisations, all the socialist workers party I used to be a member of years ago, all the this, all the that, um, they can’t achieve anything, there’s not enough, there’s not enough of them, there’s not enough p’… they hold the strings don’t they, cos they hold the guns, they hold the power, they’ve got it, the power, how do you take power away from people like that when there’s not enough of you? It’s impossible, it’s not (inaudible), it’ll never happen, it can’t be…

“No there isn’t you, you just wouldn’t, well how, there’s nothing you can do… apart from get out of it, go somewhere else, but then, you feel as if you’re… I don’t know, you’re disloyal to the people that you’re leaving behind probably…

“I won’t sell my time… oh yeah, got you. I’ll use it yeah, oh wow, yeah…. yeah…

(male passer by “What’s this all about huh, what’s that for dear?)

“Yeah is has actually, that share yeah, to share that yeah, and to know that there’s someone, yeah, to share that there’s some of that, yeah, nice one…

(male passer by “That one needs a new ribbon”)

“Thank you.”
